SALEM WITCHCRAFT

My experience with reading the Salem Story was very frightening. The whole time I thought about what if I lived there during that time. The thought of the devil at that time scares me completely. I would hate to have lived in that time. I would not be a witch because I love the lord to much. Eventhough, the thought of flying is very exhilarating. I have learned that nineteen witches was hanged at Gallows HIll in 1692. Giles Cory was totured for refusing to enter a plea at his trial. Five other including and infant died in prison. The witches were very mean and evil. If witches still existed, today then our world would be crazy. Many witches back in the day was seemed as nice people but were really witches behind it all. The witches if a person testified against them the witches would cast spells on the person in the courtroom. Governor William Phips had grown with anger when his wife was mentioned by the afflicted witches. He suspended the special Court of Oyer and Terminer he had established earlier to hear witchcraft cases. He replaced it with a new Superior Court of Judicature which did not allow spectral evidence. This court condemned only three of fifty-six defendants. Phips pardoned them along with five others awaiting exectution. In 1693 Phips pardoned the poeple who were still in prison on witchcraft charges. They were free which they could pay their jail bills.Reverend Joseph Green, who in 1697 succeeded Samuel Parris as minister in Salem Village. Green reshuffled his congregation's traditional seating plan, placing foes beside one another. Ann Putnam was one of the leading accusers, who was forced to give a public apology. The state of Massachusetts repented the Salem witch hunt in stages. IN 1711 the legislature passed a bill restoring the rights and good names of some of the victims awarding restitution to their heirs. In 1992 Massachusetts apologized to the town of Salem which dedicated memorials to the witches. These stories I have read seem not real but they really are. I know on Halloween nights I need to watch out just in case the slain Witches come back from the dead.
